well i'm sure if any of you go over to WVPreps that you've done read this, but I figured I'd post it over here too.
this is really a shock to me, I mean I can totally understand his reasons for leaving with the travel and strain it has had to put on his family over the years, but still most coaches dont leave when they know they got a good squad coming back, most choose those years when things "dont look so good".
despite my dislike of his attitude at times, Lester has proven himself as a coach and has done things with Wyoming East, Baileysville, and Herdon that only some coaches dream of.
he had a way of getting the best outta his players and that is almost a thing of the past with most coaches, if they can just half hearted play from their players these days they settle for that.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Lester. He claimed in the paper that he wasnt looking to coach again right now and said if he never coached again, he'd be ok with that, but i cant help believe you'll see his name associated with some team before too long, if not as a head coach maybe an assistant coach?
rumors is over at WVP that Princeton offered him an assistant's role for now and in a few years the head position, I was just wondering if he might try for James Monroe, I know last year they lost Mathis mid season, I just dont know if the coach who took over down there was just for the rest of the year last year or if he'll be coach this year and years to come as well?
anyways it will be interesting to see what becomes of the Lester coaching era, i personally dont feel it will be over with, here in Wyoming County maybe so, but as i said i believe his name will be seen else where!
as for Wyoming East, it makes me wonder who their new coach will be?
I wouldnt be surprised between now and basketball season if you dont hear the names of Rob Folford and possibly Jason Mathis thrown around?
how ironic would it be if Coach Hopkins came outta retirement to coach at East
, i
mean seriously i dont expect that lost idea there, but the Folford or Mathis coaching wouldnt shock me. one thing is for certain whoever the new coach at WEHS
is will be inheriting a talented team, not as talented as teams in the past few years, but they still have some good players over there this year and I
actually put East in my top 3 in AA this year....so it will be interesting to see what happens.
in AAA I'm sure many of you have heard, but Noah Cotrill will make his appearance at his third high school during his storied high school history. going from Poca to MSA to now AAA Logan, which is rather shocking, I mean I dont know if MSA is gonna have a team for basketball this year or not, but to me i'd figure Noah woulda went with one of two options, either woodrow wilson seeing how you're already in beckley and rumor is his girlfriend goes to school there? OR some other big named prep school?
i mean i just dont get the move to Logan?
and what does this say about Logan and Coach H and his crew there?....now dont no-one going throwing stones at me, cause I have mad love and respect for Mark, Soup, and whole crew at Logan, but we all heard the rumors back during the Greene boys transfer from Scott to Logan about how Logan "recruited" but I just brushed it off, they it was said again when the Paul Herbert kid came to town and now with Noah going there I cant help but to wonder is Logan the Wheeling Central of the south? (as a lot of folks seems to think WCCHS recruits), I mean my issue isnt the recruiting, I could care less, but its the fact what about this rule they was suppose to pass about transfers and what not, when will it ever apply to anyone?!
one thing about it, Noah and Paul together should make a good one two combo, not to mention Hatcher at the helm coaching them, Logan might be a good AAA contender this year? I hate Westside and them arent locking it up this year! and when will the old Beckley/Logan rivarly games pick back up?!?!?!?....whoever is doing the event formerly known as the Coal Classic should really reach out and contact Logan about coming to play at the event this year!....I'd love to see a Logan/Beckley match up!
